Who I Am & The Lineage Behind My Work
By Sarah Richardson, RM — Midwife, Healer, Teacher & Founder of The Womb & Word Collective/Co-Found The School of Dream Midwifery
My name is Sarah Richardson, and my work lives at the meeting point of medicine and mysticism — where the clinical, ancestral, and otherworldly come together in service of women’s healing.
I am a Registered Midwife, healer, author, ceremonialist, teacher, and co-founder of Dream Midwifery, a global movement exploring the intersection of womb wisdom, dreamwork, shamanism, and feminine psychology.
I am also the founder of The Womb & Word Collective, where I teach Celtic feminine mysteries, embodiment, and the revival of ancient Irish women’s healing traditions.
For over 15 years, I have walked between worlds:
the birth room and the sacred circle,
the healthcare clinic and the mythic landscape,
the physiology of the body and the spiritual intelligence of the womb.
My lineage is rooted in the O’Raghailli clan of Kells, County Meath, with ancestral threads connected to the Sídhe (fairy) traditions. My work is a weaving of clinical skill, ancestral remembering, shamanic practice, feminine psychology, and Irish cosmology.
The Four Faces of the Ancient Irish Grandmother
One of the core teachings I share is the ancient Irish Wise Woman tradition expressed through four archetypal Grandmothers:
✨ Bean Ghluine — The Midwife
Threshold keeper, doula of birth and death, guardian of new beginnings.
✨ Bean Chaointe — The Keener
Grief-tender, emotional alchemist, voice of ancestral release.
✨ Bean Feasa — The Seer
Visionary, holder of prophecy, intuitive guide and messenger.
✨ Bean Leighis — The Medicine Woman
Herbalist, healer, ritualist, and keeper of earth-based medicine.
These archetypes inform much of my work — from live ceremonies to retreats, trainings, and community rituals. They are the living bones of Irish feminine spirituality and the backbone of my lineage.
My Body of Work: Modern Midwitchery
I am the pioneer of what I call Modern Midwitchery — a revival of the Irish midwife-priestess who served as healer, seer, ritualist, dream-walker, and community guide.
This path fuses:
ancient midwifery cosmology
wise woman traditions
witchcraft & ritual
Celtic shamanism
trauma-informed embodiment
modern reproductive healthcare
There is no one else globally teaching this specific lineage-based synthesis.
I have even brought this work into academia, teaching at University College Dublin within both the undergraduate and postgraduate midwifery programmes — merging ancient Irish women’s traditions with evidence-based medicine.

Wow! Deep bow and honouring to you cara mo chroí for this sacred union of medicine and mysticism as a way to birth new possibilities so we can navigate these times of apocalypse, of unveiling, with a more dynamic and fluid psyche - and consciousness. Thank you for being you. Táim an-bhródúil asat! ❤️🔥
This synthesis of clinical expertise and ancestral practice is rare and deeply neccesary. The four Grandmother archetypes offer a grounded framework for understanding roles that modern medicine has fragmented into separate specializations. What stands out is how this work reclaims intergration rather than specialization, treating threshold moments in life as continuos rather than isolated events that belong in differnet institutional spaces.
